Selvom Warszawa blev grundlagt relativt sent i den polske historie, så har byen skiftevis været og ikke-været Polens hovedstad siden 1611. Den gamle bydel er blevet genopbygget fra grunden, for under 2. verdenskrig blev den fuldstændigt ødelagt og der var kun ruiner tilbage. Ved genopbygningen af den gamle bydel har man brugt alle de originale dele fra ruinerne som det var muligt at sammensætte med de nye bygninger . Det medfører at der i dag er en harmonisk blanding af Renæssance, Barok og Gotiske elementer som giver bydelen liv og atmosfære. I Warszawa er der mange udendørs cafeer og kunstgallerier, og byen tilbyder en stor mængde af forskelligt etnisk mad.
 I den centrale del af Masurien ligger den største koncentration af søer i Polen. Hele området er cirka dækket med 15% vand. De største søer, Snaiardwy og Mamry, er forbundet af floder og kanaler således der er et helt vandvejssystem. Hele området er derfor blevet et paradis for sejlskibe og kanoture.
60 km vest for Kraków ligger byen Oswiecim. Byen er en middelstor industriby og som sådan ikke nogen normal attraktion. Ikke mange vil genkende det polske navn for byen, men det tyske navn, Auschwitz, vil nok få de fleste til at genkalde uhyggelige billeder fra en af 2. verdenskrigs mest bestialske forbrydelse. I Auschwitz lå nazisternes største koncentrationslejr og i 1945 ødelagde nazisterne dele af lejren før de flygtede. Det tilbageværende af denne dødslejr er dog nok til at forstå hvor omfangsrig holocaust har været.
